Mk 7:1-13 The Tradition of the Elders

1Now when the Pharisees with some scribes who had come from Jerusalem gathered around [Jesus], 2they observed that some of his disciples ate their meals with unclean, that is, unwashed, hands. 3(For the Pharisees and, in fact, all Jews, do not eat without carefully washing their hands, keeping the tradition of the elders. 4And on coming from the marketplace they do not eat without purifying themselves. And there are many other things that they have traditionally observed, the purification of cups and jugs and kettles [and beds].)

Erick Manrique, CFC missionary to Oceania considered it a great privilege to meet Bishop John Quinn Weitzel, MM who has made a great impact on so many people of the faith, during his visit in Pago Pago American Samoa in November of 2009. Bishop John Quinn Weitzel, MM was installed as bishop in 1986 by the late Pio Cardinal Taofinu’u who is also the 1st Polynesian Cardinal in the world.

Amid the flurry of gift buying, tree-decorating and list making in the lead-up to Christmas, it is easy to forget the meaning behind all the festivities. A nativity scene at the Point Cook Town Centre is redirecting some attention away from shopping and onto the story at the heart of all the preparations for December 25 – the birth of Jesus Christ.

Early on I learned a memorable dictum that best describes what every CFC member must put to heart- the commitment to GO AND EVANGELIZE and EVANGELIZE AS YOU GO.

Greetings of peace!

We are pleased to announce that Joe Tale, CFC Chairman, was elected to the 15-member Laiko Board of Trustees during the Laiko biennial national conference held last October 16-18 in San Fernando, Pampange. The term of the new Board is for two years, commencing on January 2010.
